Potential Return to In-Person Worship Set for Christmas Eve

Hello, friends. Thank you for all you do to further the ministry and mission of Byers Avenue UMC! Together we are “…making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Here’s some of what’s going on at the church…

As you are probably aware, we have paused in-person Worship due to increased Covid-19 numbers in Joplin and subsequent guidance from our Bishop concerning Missouri UMC churches. Therefore, we are currently participating in an on-line Worship format only. You can view our services at

My hope is that we will be able to resume our normal Worship activities in time for Christmas Eve. We will need to follow appropriate safety measures and perhaps conduct two services on Christmas Eve to allow for proper social distancing. But, I think we can do this! Understand that this is not a final decision, but rather a plan for moving forward. That plan could change at any time.

Advent is a time of expectant waiting, and while we may experience a good deal of darkness along the way, the Light of Christ is coming. Christmas reminds us of that. Whatever happens in the upcoming weeks, we can experience joy by continually focusing on Jesus.

More information will be coming really soon concerning our potential return to in-person Worship on Christmas Eve, as well as information about our “Give ‘em Five” Giving Campaign. But, for now, that is all. Remember to keep loving God and one another, and, as always, stay on mission! It’s great serving as your pastor! – Pastor Chuck
