Worship, Pie Sales, Day Camp, Kona Ice

Good afternoon, everyone! Here is some of what’s going on at Byers Avenue UMC…

Last Sunday’s Worship recording is available at the following link: Byers Ave Morning Worship June 20, 2021 - YouTube
Last week’s Midweek Meditation can be found here: Byers Ave Midweek Mediation June 16, 2021 - YouTube

This Sunday, June 27th in Worship, we’ll continue our current message series on the Beatitudes found in Matthew Chapter 5. This week, we’ll be looking at “The Peacemakers”. How does God demonstrate peace toward us, and how does he call us to live out peace in our relationships with others? Worship is at 10:45 a.m.

Also, remember that each Sunday morning we offer two Adult Discipleship Studies from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The Challengers meet in their classroom downstairs and are currently studying the life of Joseph. Our Adult Discipleship Class meets in our Chapel outside the Worship Center. They are using a video-based series called “The Power of Jesus’ Names”. Remember, too, that we have Children’s programming available during this time in Kids’ Crossing downstairs. Join us for either of our Adult Discipleship Classes or our Children’s programming and stick around for Worship!

Our 4th of July Pie Sales are underway! Proceeds from this year’s Pie Sales will support several of our partner ministries and provide children the opportunity to participate in our Summer Day Camp (more info. about Day Camp in a moment). Order our delicious pies and support some really great causes! Visit Byers Ave UMC Pie Sale or call the church office at 417-624-3647.

Children’s Summer Day Camp takes place on Monday, July 19th through Friday, July 24th. Camp runs from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and is open to children who have completed any grade from Kindergarten through 6th. Register your child at Joplin UMC — Heartland Christian Camps ( This year’s Day Camp is in partnership with First UMC of Joplin and is hosted at their location at 4th and Byers Avenue.

Day Camp Challenge: Our 4th of July Pie Sales team has graciously agreed to donate $2,000 of their proceeds toward Day Camp so that kids from our churches and community can attend at no cost. I would like to challenge our congregation to match this amount. If you would like to donate above and beyond your normal giving toward this cause, please make checks payable to Byers Avenue UMC and include “Day Camp” on the memo line. Further, if you would like to volunteer to serve any amount of time during Day Camp Week, let me know and I will get you connected.

Kona Ice Celebration: In celebration of a successful Summer Day Camp experience, the Kona Ice truck will make a return to Byers Avenue on Sunday, August 1st following our 10:45 a.m. service. Everyone in attendance that day will be treated to a flavored ice treat.

That’s all for now. Keep loving God and one another! And, as always, stay on mission! Have a blessed day!
